Before anything else, the status: the D10 is discontinued. Neato Robotics ceased operations in 2023, and its parent Vorwerk kept the cloud running until October 2025, when it announced an immediate shutdown of the Neato cloud platform, about three years earlier than it had promised. Neato's own store now redirects to a support site. This page is a researched summary of manufacturer material, reviews and news coverage, not my own use of a D10, and it describes what the Neato D10 was and what is left of it.

What the D10 Is

The D10 is Neato's D-shaped robot vacuum with a laser (lidar) scanner for navigation. The flat front is the point of the shape: it lets the robot reach into corners that round robots miss. The D10 was the one model in Neato's latest range with a True HEPA filter, which the maker says captures up to 99.97 percent of allergens and fine dust particles down to 0.3 microns.

Specs at a glance

  • Laser navigation that maps floors for room-by-room cleaning
  • True HEPA filtration (99.97 percent down to 0.3 microns)
  • Three suction levels (Eco, Turbo, Max). Neato's page and TechRadar cite up to 300 minutes of runtime in Eco mode, and stronger modes drain the battery faster
  • Multi-surface brush for carpets and hard floors
  • Coverage of up to 2,700 sq ft on a single charge, per Neato
  • Voice control through Alexa and Google Assistant, plus Siri Shortcuts on iOS

Earlier versions of this page said 120 minutes of runtime, which matches the D9, not the D10, and claimed Apple HomeKit compatibility. Reports describe Siri Shortcuts support only, with no integration into the Apple Home app, so the HomeKit claim is gone.

What Stopped Working in 2025

The D10 depended on the cloud-based MyNeato app for scheduling, room naming, zone cleaning, cleaning history, firmware updates and the voice assistant links. Heise reports that without the cloud connection the robots can no longer be controlled through the app, schedules can't be set and the mapping functions are unavailable. 9to5Mac reports the robots can still be started manually with the start button, but users can't edit routines or pick rooms or zones.

Vorwerk gave cybersecurity, data protection and compliance requirements as the reason, saying its legacy architecture could no longer be operated safely. According to heise, it examined releasing the code as open source and rejected that for now. The company says warranty and service obligations stay in place.

That changes the buying advice completely. The pairing, geofencing, multi-floor floor plans and smart home routines that the old version of this page described are exactly what the cloud shutdown removed, and I haven't seen any source that confirms they still work for the D10. Treat any voice-assistant or app claim from before October 2025 as historical.

If You Already Own One

The D10 still works as a manual robot vacuum. Press the start button, and it cleans on its own. You can rinse the dustbin under water, which takes about thirty seconds, then let it air dry completely before putting it back. The dock works best on a hard floor with some open space on each side and behind the unit.

If you want scheduling and room control back, the realistic path is a different robot, or the community projects that appear around abandoned cloud devices, which I haven't evaluated here. Heise reports a petition of almost 4,700 signatures asking Vorwerk to release the source code or keep the cloud alive.

Maintenance Notes for an Existing D10

A D10 that still runs is mostly a mechanical machine now, so the upkeep that matters is the physical kind. Empty the bin after each run, because a full bin cuts suction. Check the brush for wrapped hair, since the multi-surface brush that came with the robot picks up long hair and pet fur. Replace the True HEPA filter on a regular cycle, and keep the side brush clean so it keeps sweeping edges into the path of the main brush. Because Neato's own store now redirects to a support site, look for compatible filters and brushes from third-party sellers before you run the originals to death.

What to Look For in a Replacement

The D10's story is the argument for a short checklist. Prefer a robot that still cleans on a schedule when the vendor's servers are gone, which in practice means local control or Matter support rather than a cloud-only app. Check whether the maker says what happens to maps and schedules if the cloud closes, and whether it has published an end-of-support date. A lidar robot like the D10 builds its map by laser, so it doesn't depend on room lighting, but that map still lives wherever the app keeps it. Finally, keep the manual mode in mind as a fallback: any robot with a physical start button gives you a floor-cleaning device that outlives its app, as the D10 is now doing.

Should You Buy One Used?

Probably not, unless you only want a cheap lidar cleaner you can start by hand and you accept that the app will stay dead. A robot vacuum that can't schedule or map is a much weaker product than the one reviewers tested. For smart home use, choose a model with local control, Matter support or an actively maintained cloud, and read how robot vacuum mapping works before you compare. For the wider lesson about devices that depend on a vendor's servers, see the smart home pages on this site.
