Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: March 2026

Smart Home Guide (smarthomeguide.blog) participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We may also participate in affiliate programs run by other retailers and manufacturers in the smart home space.

How Affiliate Links Work

When you click an affiliate link on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. The price you pay is identical whether you click through our link or navigate to the retailer directly. Affiliate commissions help us cover the costs of running this site -- hosting, research time, product testing -- and allow us to keep our content free and accessible.

Commissions vary by program and product category. For Amazon Associates, typical rates range from 1% to 10% depending on the category. Smart home devices such as hubs, sensors, and cameras generally fall in the 3% to 5% range.

Which Links Are Affiliate Links

Links pointing to Amazon.com on product pages and in some blog posts are affiliate links. We do not use tracking pixels, sponsored injections, or third-party monetization networks that swap out links without disclosure. Every affiliate relationship we participate in is listed below.

  • Amazon Associates -- product pages and "where to buy" links throughout the site
  • Other retailer programs -- occasionally used for products not available on Amazon; disclosed in the relevant article

If you are unsure whether a specific link is an affiliate link, feel free to contact us. We'd rather answer the question than leave you guessing.

Editorial Independence

Our editorial opinions are not influenced by affiliate relationships. We do not accept payment for positive reviews, and we don't bump up a product's rating because it pays a higher commission. Every product we cover is evaluated on its merits -- real-world performance, reliability, app quality, integration with platforms like Home Assistant, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa, and value for the price.

We have given negative reviews to products we earn commissions on, and we have recommended products with no affiliate link at all when they were genuinely the best option. If a product fails at a basic function -- say, a smart thermostat that disconnects from Wi-Fi every few days -- we say so plainly regardless of who makes it.

Product Testing and Research

Many products featured on this site have been purchased at full retail price for hands-on testing. Where we rely on manufacturer specs, verified user reports, or third-party lab data, we state that clearly in the review. We don't claim first-hand experience we don't have.

FTC Compliance

This disclosure complies with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission guidelines on endorsements and testimonials in advertising (16 CFR Part 255). The FTC requires that material connections between a reviewer and a brand be clearly disclosed. Our participation in the Amazon Associates Program and any other affiliate programs constitutes a material connection, and we disclose it here and on relevant pages throughout the site.

If you have questions about our affiliate relationships or a specific recommendation, contact us via the contact page linked in the site footer.
