The Huawei Watch 5 is a premium smartwatch that leans on health sensing more than on smart home control. I haven't worn one, so this page is a researched summary of Huawei's own specification page and independent reviews, not a hands-on test. Huawei launched the Watch 5 in May 2025, and the Watch 6 followed on 2 September 2026, so treat this as the page for the previous generation.
The Short Version
The Watch 5 comes in a 46 mm and a 42 mm version, both with a round LTPO AMOLED display at 466 x 466 pixels and 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The 46 mm model has a 1.5-inch screen (310 PPI); the 42 mm model has a 1.38-inch one (338 PPI). Depending on the colour, the case is titanium, 316L or 904L stainless steel with a ceramic or composite back.
Huawei lists an optical heart rate sensor, ECG, body temperature, a barometer, a compass and an ambient light sensor, plus GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS positioning. One oddity worth knowing: Huawei's own page says the figures are "theoretical values based on product design", so real-world numbers will differ.
Specs From Huawei's Page
- Display: 1.5-inch (46 mm) or 1.38-inch (42 mm) LTPO 2.0 AMOLED, 466 x 466 pixels, 3,000 nits peak.
- Battery, standard mode: about 4.5 days typical on the 46 mm (3 days with always-on display) and about 3 days on the 42 mm (2 days with always-on display). Huawei says it drops to roughly 3 days and 2 days when paired with an iPhone.
- Battery saver mode: up to 11 days maximum (7 typical) on the 46 mm, up to 7 days maximum (5 typical) on the 42 mm.
- Charging: wireless, with the Wireless SuperCharger (2nd generation) in the box.
- Water resistance: 5 ATM and IP69, EN13319 compliant, with freedives rated to 40 m. Huawei warns against hot showers, saunas and soaps.
- Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6 (2.4 and 5 GHz), NFC. GSMArena lists an eSIM on the cellular variant only.
- Compatibility: Android 9.0 or later, iOS 13.0 or later.
- Weight: about 58 or 63 g (46 mm) and 48 or 51 g (42 mm), strap not included.
- Software: GSMArena lists HarmonyOS, not Wear OS, which matters for app availability.
Smart Home and Voice Assistants
This is where the older version of this page was wrong. It claimed the watch works with Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant to run your thermostat, lights and locks. I couldn't find that in Huawei's specification page or in the reviews I read, so those claims are gone. Huawei doesn't list any of the three assistants for the Watch 5. The watch has a speaker and microphone for calls, and it runs HarmonyOS, so don't count on it as a control surface for a Home Assistant or Google Home setup.
If controlling a house from your wrist is the goal, read your wrist as a control surface first and compare watches that run an app ecosystem your smart home platform supports.
Using It With an iPhone
Huawei lists iOS 13 or later, so it pairs with an iPhone. Reviewers also report that some functions are restricted on iOS, and Huawei's own battery table shows a shorter runtime with an iPhone. Check the feature list for your country before buying if you're on iOS. Notebookcheck's review also says the Watch 5 wasn't sold officially in the United States, so US buyers end up with import listings.
Price and Availability
Launch pricing varied by region. Reviews put the UK launch price at about 400 GBP, and Europe at a range from roughly 450 EUR upward for the titanium versions, but GSMArena shows a lower figure, so check your local retailer. With the Watch 6 on sale since September 2026 (UK pricing confirmed at 399.99 GBP, retail from 23 September), the Watch 5 is the model to look for on discount, if stock is still around.
Materials, Sizes and Fit
Huawei's specification page ties the case material to the colour. The 46 mm Purple, Silver and Brown versions use an aerospace-grade titanium front with a ceramic back, while the Blue and Black versions use 316L stainless steel with a fibre-reinforced composite back. The 42 mm Beige and Sand gold versions use 904L stainless steel with a ceramic back, and the White, Green and Black ones use 316L stainless steel with the composite back. That is why the weights differ between colours of the same size.
Wrist size matters more than usual here. Huawei lists 140 to 210 mm for the 46 mm model and 120 to 190 mm for the 42 mm model, with the Beige one at 120 to 180 mm. If you have a small wrist, the 42 mm model is the one to look at. The operating temperature range is 0 to 35 degrees C, which means a winter run in freezing weather falls outside Huawei's stated range.
Setup Basics
- Install the Huawei Health app on your phone.
- Turn on the watch and pair over Bluetooth.
- Set up your profile in the app so health readings use your age, height and weight.
- Pick watch faces and install apps from within the app.
Keep both the phone's operating system and the watch firmware current. Lowering screen brightness and turning off always-on display is the quickest way to stretch the battery.
Bottom Line
The Huawei Watch 5 is a health and fitness watch with a bright screen and battery life that reviewers rate above average for the category. It is not a smart home remote. If you're on iPhone, expect limits; if you want assistant control, look elsewhere. For a recent buyer, the Watch 6 is the better thing to compare against, and Huawei's specification page is the place to confirm anything before you spend money.
