Keep the wall switch in the on position at all times. Use app controls or a smart button for everyday adjustments. Switching the wall switch off cuts power to the bulb and breaks mesh links, which can cause delayed reconnection.

Configuration Tips

If you use Thread, place a border router within reasonable range of the bulb. Apple TV 4K, Amazon eero, or Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) all work as Thread border routers. For Zigbee, adding one or two mains-powered IKEA devices creates a stronger mesh for larger homes. If scenes respond slowly, check whether all bulbs in a group share the same protocol path, since mixing Zigbee and Thread in one group can add latency.

Final Thoughts

The IKEA KAJPLATS E26 Smart Bulb is a versatile globe lamp for daily light and mood scenes. It offers white tuning across a wide color temperature range, full RGB color, a clean 60 mm globe profile, and fast smooth fades. It worked well on Zigbee through the DIRIGERA hub and performed even better on Thread with Matter, where response times were noticeably quicker.

There are a few limitations worth noting. The US launch was expected in April 2026, with availability now beginning. My pre-release sample ran firmware 0.9.2, which may differ from retail code. I tested in a two-bedroom home with concrete walls, so mesh range will vary by layout. The 1521 lm version is bright for a globe bulb but still not a replacement for a directional spotlight in a task area.

For most lamps and pendants where a globe shape fits best, this is an easy recommendation. The color and white spectrum version at 1055 lm covers living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas well. If you prioritize HomeKit or Matter flexibility at a lower price than Philips Hue, the KAJPLATS E26 is worth serious consideration.
